What’s the Difference Between Glossy and Matte Paper Finish?

Choosing the right look and feel for your PYM photo book

Updated over 2 weeks ago

When you create a PYM Square photo book, you can choose between a glossy or matte paper finish. Both options use high-quality FUJIFILM photo paper, but each creates a different look and feel for your memories.

Glossy Finish

  • Look: Vibrant colors, high contrast, and sharp detail.

  • Feel: Smooth and shiny surface that reflects light.

  • Best For:

    • Bright travel photos with bold colors.

    • Wedding albums where you want a polished, luxurious feel.

    • Photos with lots of fine detail that benefit from extra sharpness.

  • Keep in Mind: Glossy paper can show fingerprints more easily under direct light.

Matte Finish

  • Look: Soft tones with a refined, elegant appearance.

  • Feel: Non-reflective surface that reduces glare.

  • Best For:

    • Family yearbooks and everyday memories.

    • Black-and-white or vintage-style photography.

    • Books that will be handled often (less risk of smudges).

  • Keep in Mind: Colors appear slightly softer compared to glossy.

There’s no right or wrong choice—it all depends on your story. If you want vibrant impact, go glossy. If you prefer subtle elegance, matte is the way to go. Either way, your PYM photo book will be printed on premium paper designed to last for generations.
